Industrial Energy Efficiency Market Assessment in Indonesia

All projections point to Southeast Asia region to be one of the main regions with rapid economic growth in the coming decades. The implication of such development is an increase in energy use and association greenhouse gas emissions. The industrial activities are growing fast in all countries in Southeast Asia. While some of the newly built industrial plants use more efficient technologies, many of the existing industrial assets in the region are inefficient compared to the international best available technologies. Therefore, substantial potential exist in the region for industrial energy efficiency improvement and decarbonization of manufacturing sector.

Indonesia is the largest economy and most populated country in this region and is one of the fastest growing economy with rapid industrialization.

Global Efficiency Intelligence has teamed up with ASEAN Center for Energy (a regional think tank based in Jakarta) and Pertiwi Consulting (an international consulting based in Bali) to conduct a detailed study to assess the energy efficiency market potential in industrial sectors in Indonesia. This study is supported by Korean Development Bank. We will look into the potential application of various cross-cutting as well as sector-specific energy efficiency technologies in industry sector in Indonesia and will quantify the energy saving, GHG reduction potential and cost for each technology. Such study would provide vital information to stakeholders (e.g. government, technology/solutions providers, financial institutions) to develop policies and programs to improve the energy efficiency and reduce emissions in the industry sector in Indonesia.
